Fantasia Review "The Mortuary Collection" Puts the Fun in Funeral

Updated: Feb 19, 2021

A welcome dose of creepy nostalgia awaits, in this modern take on an old-school horror-anthology.

It’s not easy to find a horror movie that’s rated 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Now add an indie budget to the mix and you’d be even harder pressed to find one that fits the bill. Ryan Spindell’s “The Mortuary Collection” is all of that and so much more.

Montgomery Dark (Clancy Brown) owns the only mortuary in the mystical town of Raven’s End and it’s safe to say he’s seen his fair share of bizarre deaths. In walks Sam (Caitlin Custer), a young drifter looking for work who saw a “helped wanted” sign in front of the crumbling Victorian funeral parlor.

What unfolds is a series of twisted tales, each creepier and more compelling than the last. "The Mortuary Collection” is a beautifully crafted love letter to 70’s and 80’s horror anthologies, and an absolute blast from start to finish.

"The Mortuary Collection" will be released October 15, 2020 on Shudder.
